Small Home Changes Can Improve Your Family's Health

My husband and I both suffer from allergies and asthma and, unfortunately, two of our children inherited our health problems. Living with both can be a struggle, but we take every step we can to keep our family healthy. One spring, when our seasonal allergies were especially bad, we decided to finally have our carpeting replaced with natural tile flooring and that was a great decision. Even though it seemed like we vacuumed constantly, I guess our carpets harbored more dust and mites than we ever expected! Since then, we have invested in other upgrades to improve our family's health, including antimicrobial kitchen counter tops. I enjoy helping others, so I decided to start a blog to share what we have learned about home upgrades and renovations. I plan to post on a variety of topics, so there will be something of interest to everyone!

3 Tips To Stay Cool In Your Car

When summer hits and the temperatures drop, it can be hard driving around ton, especially if you don't have air conditioning. Luckily, there are a few different things you can do that help you cool off while in the car and keep it cool if it is parked. This can prevent a burning hot steering wheel when you get back in the car. Here are some tips for keeping your car cool in the summer.

Park in the Shade

When it comes to parking your vehicle, there are two things you should do: park in the shade and get a sunshade. The main problem with parking in the heat is that your seats and steering wheel are going to get burning hot. Even if you don't have leather seats, the upholstery is going to get hot really fast. Choosing a spot in the shade is a great way to avoid these burning hot seats. You can also get a sunshade for your window that is inexpensive and blocks out a lot of heat.

Get Your Windows Tinted

Having your vehicle's windows tinted—by professionals such as Utah Window Tinting—does more than create a cool and dark style, it is also a great option for cooling off your vehicle. The reason so many car owners with black cars get their windows tinted is because their car gets extremely hot. However, they are beneficial for any color. The tinting of the windows helps to reflect some of the bright sunlight away from the windows and prevents the interior from getting too hot.

Keep the Right Items Inside

When driving around in the heat, you also need to have the right items in your car in case of emergency. First and foremost, have plenty of water. Try to keep it in a shaded spot where it doesn't get hot, or keep it in a cooler that will protect it from outside heat. You should also consider a cloth steering wheel cover to prevent burning your hands if it gets too hot, and an insulated shopping bag with ice packs when getting cold items from the store. In addition, you should always carry snacks and a first aid kit in case of emergencies.

On the other hand, do not keep items like dairy products, CDs, bottled sunscreen, lipstick, candy or crayons in the car when it is hot out. All of these items get ruined in the heat.

After being sure your car is staying comfortably cool, don't forget to get it serviced regularly. By checking the water, oil, and belts in the hot summer heat, you avoid more serious damage of your vehicle.
