Small Home Changes Can Improve Your Family's Health

My husband and I both suffer from allergies and asthma and, unfortunately, two of our children inherited our health problems. Living with both can be a struggle, but we take every step we can to keep our family healthy. One spring, when our seasonal allergies were especially bad, we decided to finally have our carpeting replaced with natural tile flooring and that was a great decision. Even though it seemed like we vacuumed constantly, I guess our carpets harbored more dust and mites than we ever expected! Since then, we have invested in other upgrades to improve our family's health, including antimicrobial kitchen counter tops. I enjoy helping others, so I decided to start a blog to share what we have learned about home upgrades and renovations. I plan to post on a variety of topics, so there will be something of interest to everyone!

3 Reasons To Have A Copper Roof Installed

Deciding on a new roofing material for your commercial building can be a bit difficult, especially when you consider the fact that there are a large number of great options available. One good option you should consider is copper, which is a great choice for the following reasons:

Weight

It is very important to consider the weight of any roofing material that you select, mostly because you are going to want to make sure that the building's structure can actually support the new roof. For example, slate is an extremely popular roofing material for both residential and commercial buildings, but it is extremely heavy.

Many buildings simply cannot hold up the weight of a slate roof, at least not without reinforcing the roof or building structure, which can be very expensive. However, copper roofing can provide you with many of the same benefits as the heavier roofing materials, but at a fraction of the weight. In most cases, your building will not need to have any additional structural work done before a copper roof can be installed.

Durability

One of the reasons that copper roofing is a great option is that it is extremely durable and can stand up to just about any climate. For example, copper is perfect for hot and dry climates because it is non-combustible. This means that if there is any type of neighborhood or wildfire spreading toward your building, your roof will not ignite. Since fires tend to spread from building to building via the roof, a copper roof will greatly improve your building's chances of making it through the fire safely.

Another example of copper's durability is that it will not corrode or rot in wet climates. The patina that copper will develop over the years actually provides additional protection from moisture that helps the roof stand up to corrosion. In addition, since copper is not organic, pests and mold that feed on other types of roofing material will not be an issue.

Energy Efficient

Copper roofing is a great way to lower your cooling bills throughout the summer. The reason for this is that copper will actually reflect the light from the sun away from your building, while other roofing materials tend to absorb the light. Since the light is being reflected away from the building, the interior of the building will actually be cooler, which will allow you to have your air conditioner on less frequently.

Speak to a commercial roofing contractor like Bell Roof Co today about installing a copper roof on your building. You will be glad you did once you have a lightweight roof that is both durable and energy efficient.
