Small Home Changes Can Improve Your Family's Health

My husband and I both suffer from allergies and asthma and, unfortunately, two of our children inherited our health problems. Living with both can be a struggle, but we take every step we can to keep our family healthy. One spring, when our seasonal allergies were especially bad, we decided to finally have our carpeting replaced with natural tile flooring and that was a great decision. Even though it seemed like we vacuumed constantly, I guess our carpets harbored more dust and mites than we ever expected! Since then, we have invested in other upgrades to improve our family's health, including antimicrobial kitchen counter tops. I enjoy helping others, so I decided to start a blog to share what we have learned about home upgrades and renovations. I plan to post on a variety of topics, so there will be something of interest to everyone!

Looking To Become An Electrical Contractor? Learn About The Three Different Types

If you are considering a job as an electrical contractor, you will have to decide which type you would like to become. Typically, the licensing requirement differs between an electrician and each of the three types of electrical contractors. Learning the differences will help you decide which is the best for you. This can help you select a training program or apprenticeship that will allow you to gain the skills you need to become certified in the field you desire to work in. Here are the three different types of electrical contractors.

Outside Electrical Contractors

Outside electrical contractors, also referred to as line electrical contractors, primarily work on high-voltage power lines. This includes repairing, testing and setting up any lines that carry electricity from a power plant to a sub-station and from a sub-station to a home or building. If you enjoy working outdoors and are not scared of heights, this may be a great field for you to consider.

Inside Electrical Contractors

An inside electrical contractor works on electrical needs within an owner's property lines. This may be installing outdoor lighting on a privately owned property, or installing new electrical wiring inside a home. The work an independent electrical contractor and the majority of electricians perform is very similar and often overlaps. If you prefer to work primarily in houses and commercial buildings, an inside electrical contractor may be the right position for you.

Low-Voltage Installation Electrical Contractors

The last type of electrical contractor is a low-voltage installation contractor. These type of contractors often work on either integrated business systems or voice/data/video systems. This includes installing items such as home and business alarms, climate control thermostats, wiring for new telecommunication systems and fiber optics installation. As more businesses and residences install new forms of technology, demand for this type of electrical contractor has sky-rocketed. This makes this a great field to get into, as there are plenty of jobs available. If you enjoy the idea of working in the electrical field, but are worried about completing high-voltage tasks, a low-voltage installation job may be perfect for you.

If you are looking to do independent electrical work, you may be looking to become an electrical contractor. However, there are different certifications required, based on the type of electrical contracting work you wish to do. Researching the different types of contractors will help you decide which line of work appeals to you most. This helps ensure you will be happy and satisfied with your job, while ensuring you get the right certification for the type of work you wish to perform.
